So where did the G4GUITARMETHOD come from? David Hart has been teaching guitar, writing programs, teaching teachers and establishing and managing music schools fulltime for over 20 years and is responsible both directly and indirectly for literally 1000's of successful guitarists. The G4GUITARMETHOD is the result of this experience . David's success and the success of the G4GUITARMETHOD is a mixture of the content and the way it is actually structured. By installing systems that monitor student practice and progress coupled with definite clear goals it is almost impossible for a student to fail. The only way to fail we say is to give up.

So how does the G4GUITARMETHOD work? The G4GUITARMETHOD is about establishing the habits of great guitarists. Almost anyone can become a proficient guitarist by practicing the correct technique on a regular basis. G4 is also about supporting and developing the skills students require to achieve a Grade 1, 2, 3 or 4 according to the AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board). These skills include Strumming, Picking, Chords, Arpeggios, Scales, Reading music, Rhythm and Aural. The skills will give you a solid basis to go on and play almost any style.

Who teaches the G4GUITARMETHOD? All classes are conducted by professional guitarists who are fully trained in teaching hte G4GUITARMETHOD. David Hart oversees all the training. G4 also has a student coordinator who oversees all the students and teachers and regualrly reports back to David Hart. Added to this we have ongoing training to ensure our teachers are also constantly learning. G4 is a learning environment for students, teachers and management. We are all about constant improvement.

What will the G4GUITARMETHOD teach me? As mentioned the G4GUITARMETHOD is focused on skills. Not just practical but aural and theoretical. You will also learn songs of course but they will be selected to reinforce the skills. The ultimate goal is for you to reach a point where you can play any song you like without the aid of a teacher. The famous Chinese proverb 'Give a person a fish and you'll feed them for a day, teach a person to fish and you feed them for a lifetime' echoes the G4GUITARMETHOD philosophy. Teaching the skills will allow you to learn what you like.

Is the G4GUITARMETHOD a fun way to learn? Well lets say its like sport. Getting fit, strong and skilful takes work. But playing the game is fun. Do the work and you will have fun. The guitar is not an easy instrument to master. Many people take on guitar as a hobby. This is fine as long as their expectations are not high. The guitar is fun to learn but your expectations must be realistic. If you are prepared to practice at least 30mins a day consistently you will enjoy it. Anything less and your progress will be slow. (Children under 12 years old can do less practice as these younger years are more about building up to a regular routine).. I believe for guitar to be fun you must become proficient on the instrument. Imagine living in a country where you can only speak the language at a beginners level. It would be difficult at best and probably completely frustrating. Guitar is no different.

How are the lessons conducted? All lessons are conducted in small groups of up to 5 students for the following reasons;

  • Students learn the importance of working with other musicians.
  • Students learn to play in time and in tune more effectively.
  • Its more social so students can make friends with people with a similar interest.
  • Students are more likely to stick at it, practice more and generally work harder.
  • Better able to form a band, duet etc. in the future.
  • They become confident to play and perform in front of an audience.
  • Students learn from each other. E.g. Sharing songs, riffs, ideas, etc.
  • They generally become and stay more motivated.

Are there different levels? YES. Students will be placed in a class that suits their level of skill (not necessarily age). The general idea is to move the top student of each level up to the next level as soon as possible.

So how much will it cost? Please refer to our Prices page.

So how do I begin? All students begin by doing the 5 week introduction. This gives students a chance to decide if guitar is for them before committing for a full 10 weeks. Learning guitar is not a quick process. It takes around 2 years to become proficient .
